As an artist, I have always been influenced by my surroundings such as environment, friends and family, objects, artists, and many other things that I experienced or saw in my everyday life. One of the major reasons that I started doing anything that related to art was because of my older brother. After watching him I thought that it was so astonishing that a person could create such works that really stood out and could have such a big impact.  My brother would often do many drawings or paintings in black and white, creating these high contrast pieces. He became a big inspiration to me as well as an oil painter by the name Richard Schmid. Schmid was well known for his used of colors in his oil paintings because they had meaning and an importance to the piece. He would use a wide variety of colors but he typically would keep warm colors in the front and have cooler colors in the back. These two ways of working really implanted itself into me as styles/ concepts as I began to grow.

My design process for just about everything I do is based off of impulsive creative thinking. I begin with an optimistic perspective as I begin putting the design or piece together. I feel that I adopted this way of thinking from Polish artist Paulina Olowska, who was well known for being very optimistic and back-ward looking as an artist. Not only that, but my use of a variety of materials and mediums also contributed to my way of working.  Some examples of these would include charcoal, graphite, pen, ink, and clay. However, I would soon find the Abode programs to peak my interest more than the typically paper and pen. I tend to find myself competing with other artist or students when it comes to a piece because I would want mine to stand out more in some way.

From this I am able to come up with ideas that I feel is appropriate for the task at hand. When comparing my recent work to my work in the past, there is a get change in how I use to work. My work has become more rich in color, a larger color palette, dramatic, cultural, and realism. I believe that reason this happened is because of the fellow artists that I surround myself with. They have a bigger impact on me as an artist than they’ll probably ever know. My style is a combination because it has become more realistic, it incorporates culture, functional, figurative, and decorative. From all of these styles I am able to create impulsive designs for all different types of pieces whether they range from digital to clay.
